Iron Man "making of" on DVD

From the thread on the NewTek forum:

Everything was rendered in LightWave, using a complex surface built using nodes. Tons of texturing (color, reflection, bump, normal, and displacement). The flight smoke is hypervoxels, and the flamethrowers were sent out of house to Scanline in Germany. - MikeRB

Emmy® win for "Inside the Living Body"
Digital effects company bandito has won an Emmy Award at the 2008 Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards in New York.
The digital effects company won the award for its visual effects work on the National Geographic documentary "Inside the Living Body".
The award was in the category 'Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft: Graphic Design and Art Direction' and is shared with effects cinematographer Dr David Barlow. Four other documentaries were nominated.

Steven Gomez, Managing Director of bandito, was thrilled to have won. "I was so shocked when they read out our names that I almost forgot to get up and collect the award! It was a fantastic but quite surreal experience; I floated up to the podium to make my speech."

The documentary was made for US television, and depicts the development and aging of the human body over a number of years. bandito produced highly detailed graphics using VoluMedic, which enabled Steven and his team to manipulate real CT scans to great visual effect. "We also put in a lot of meticulous morphing work ourselves. As a result, we were able to depict the human body with levels of visual accuracy that have never been reached before," Steven confirms.

Steven is proud of the hard work his team put in to win the award. "The project was a real challenge. But I’ve always believed in 'staying with the problem'. I believe that tenacity is what won us the award."

Project list update
Print: GEM car
Chrysler recently unveiled a new all-electric car from its GEM subsidiary. The Peapod is first of a new generation of GEM electric vehicles that will be more user-friendly and efficient. Of course, with the car not yet built, they needed visualization to a high standardand so who better to contact than Joe Zeff? "We did all the exteriors. 16 renders in a week. It got a big response - we've been contacted about two other projects.", said Joe.
Splashlight: "All of the exterior renders of the car were done in LightWave"

It's also a good way to show other facebook users the software you favour.

There's a discussion board to post ideas and projects, a wall to present yourself and being a fan will also guarantee you an update through email whenever an interesting item of LightWave news appears.

4h+ of v9.5 videos

William Vaughan has made more than two hours of video tutorials presenting new and improved v9.5 features including rigging using new joints and constraints and new nodes like the carpaint material shown above. In addition he has also dedicated more than two hours to show just how to really get the best from FiberFX. This must-see material is free from NewTek here:

Ten 24 Making of "The Patient"

NewTek spoke to James Busby from Ten 24 about his incredible walkthrough:

How long have you been using LightWave?
I've been using LightWave on and off for the last 10 years now, I got into it just before I went to university in 1998

Do you use LightWave professionally?
Yep LightWave is my software of choice when it comes to modeling and rendering. I've done a lot of work with Maya and Renderman but nothing compares to LightWave's ease of use and its fantastic ability to create photorealistic images / animation extremely quickly.

What inspired you to make such a detailed walkthrough?

Well I've just started my own company and obviously I wanted to raise awareness within the community, however teaching is something I've always wanted to do and for me its all about sharing the knowledge.

Giving away the model and scene is very generous, what do you hope to see produced?
I don't mind what people do with the model, its intended as a teaching aid, its not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but I would hope that some people might be able to learn something from the skin shader setup.
