Tim Jenison - NewTek Founder

Tim Jenison is considered the visionary force behind the desktop video revolution. Jenison founded NewTek in 1985, and led the way in the development of a series of highly successful products, including DigiView (the first video digitizer for a computer), DigiPaint, and the Amiga Video Toaster®.

Jenison learned about technology and electrical equipment from his father, who ran an electrical engineering firm. At an early age, he learned to play the piano, and his keyboard talents propelled him to leave college to join a rock band—where, of course, he continually worked on ways to improve the sound equipment.

Tim Jenison was one of the early enthusiasts for personal computers. By the late 1970s, he saw the computer as the integrating medium for his various passions: electronics, music, film and video. He decided that forming a company was the best way to fuel his endeavors to create sophisticated, yet affordable video software tools that everyone could use and enjoy.

Jim Plant - CEO

Jim Plant joined NewTek in 2001. Before joining NewTek, Plant served as vice president of marketing communications at Geocast Network Systems. Prior to that, he was director of marketing and director of corporate communications at ReplayTV, Inc., a pioneering digital video recorder company. Plant is best known in the NewTek community as the founding editor-in-chief of Avid, the Amiga-Video Journal, and Video Toaster® User Magazine. As CEO of AMG Media, he oversaw the launch and development of Alpha Visual FX magazine, LightWave™ Pro and the Video Toaster User Expo. He began his career as the director of corporate and educational sales at HT Electronics, focusing on the sales of desktop video production and visual effects hardware and software.

Dr. Andrew Cross - President and CTO

Dr. Cross joined NewTek in 1998, as a senior software engineer. Since then, Cross was promoted to lead engineer on the Video ToasterT [2] project, and subsequently to director of video engineering and vice president of video software engineering. While at NewTek, he has managed the development of numerous projects, including Vidget™, VT[3]™, VT[4]™, LightWave® 8.0 and TriCaster™.

He has also contributed technology to Aura Video Paint™. Prior to joining NewTek, he worked on high-end graphics software including GenesisVFX, a special effects program for use with NewTek's LightWave 3D® animation system.

Cross earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The Victoria University of Manchester, a Doctorate of Philosophy from The University of York, and has published more than 20 technical papers in peer-reviewed scientific conferences and journals.

Stephen Doubleday - CFO, Vice President of Finance and Administration

Stephen Doubleday joined NewTek in 1994. During his years at NewTek, he has directed financial planning and forecasting. He came to NewTek with 20 years of experience in accounting and finance. Previous, he was the executive vice president and chief operating officer for Plastic Sales & Manufacturing Co. in Kansas City, Missouri. From the time he joined Plastic Sales in 1977, Doubleday rose through the ranks, from controller, to vice president of finance, to vice president of operations, and finally to the position of executive vice president. Doubleday started his career with Arthur Andersen & Co., as an auditor. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Missouri.

Chuck Silber - Chief Operating Officer

Chuck joined NewTek in March of 2008, after a successful tenure at Avid Technology. Chuck is responsible for driving and managing the strategic growth of NewTek's reseller channel, developing and enhancing the company's sales organization, and increasing revenue in its core video and 3D animation businesses. As vice president of sales and service operations at Avid Technology, Chuck managed a $280 million per year sales and professional services organization, including a direct sales force of more than 50, a service organization of more than 200, and a reseller network of more than 100 companies. He played an integral role in negotiating $10 million+ contracts with major broadcast networks, including NBC, CBS, ABC/Disney, and Turner Broadcasting. Chuck began his career in digital media at MicroTech Solutions, where he rose to the post of vice president of sales, before his departure in 2000.

Philip Nelson - Chief Relationship Officer

Philip oversees the cultivation of strategic customer relationships across all markets and is the champion for NewTek corporate culture.  Nelson also leads NewTek's social media efforts. Beginning as a sales rep in 1998, Nelson has been promoted several times; first as central sales manager, then east coast sales manager, director of worldwide sales, vice president of sales and video marketing, SVP of Artist & Media Relations and finally Chief Relationship Officer, where he is a driving force in increasing sales and market share. Nelson has overseen numerous product launches, including  TriCaster™,  VT[4]™ (Video Toaster) and SpeedEDIT™. At NewTek, Nelson has forged successful relationships with the NBA, NFL, Disney, ESPN, Fox Sports, and MTV. Prior to joining NewTek, Nelson was an entrepreneur, focusing in video production, post production and ISP. Previous clients included Phil Robertson's Duck Commander, Tim McGraw, San Antonio Spurs, The Smithereens, MTV, Coca-Cola and Georgia Pacific.

Pat Grogan - Senior Vice President of Operations

Pat Grogan oversees day-to-day operations of the company including human resources, shipping and receiving, purchasing, facility management, and customer support services. Pat has been a key member of the NewTek organization since the company's relocation to San Antonio, in 1997. He joined NewTek as director of education and training, and has served in a number of roles at NewTek, including sales management and director of operations. Prior to joining NewTek, he spent 18 years at Washburn University in Topeka, as producer/director, media center director, and faculty member. He was active in video production, and produced and hosted many different TV programs for Washburn Cable Television. In conjunction with NewTek, he established the first NewTek Authorized Video Toaster® Training Center on the campus at Washburn University. Pat Grogan holds a Bachelors degree in Radio & Television Production from Washburn University, and a Masters in Educational Technology from Kansas State University.

Michael Kornet - Executive Vice President of Business Development

Michael is responsible for identifying and implementing strategy that leverages the combined strength of NewTek's user-base and partner ecosystem, to build new revenue streams. Most recently, he led the marketing group as Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing all marketing efforts and executing NewTek's growth strategy. Before accepting the CMO position, he was the vice president of business development, forging partnerships with other technology leaders, like AMD, Apple, Intel, Microsoft, and others. He also created the OEM products division, and developed strategic vertical markets for NewTek product lines. Michael joined NewTek in 2002 and was previously Replay TV's vice president of business development for media, where he helped secure Series B financing, and forged Replay TV's strategic agreements and relationships. Prior to Replay TV, Michael was publishing director for the digital video properties of the Entertainment Technology Group at Miller Freeman Inc., and held positions as president of AMG Media and advertising director at Cahners. He is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles, and holds elections to Who's Who in California, and Who's Who in Advertising.

Rex Olson - Vice President of Media Production

Rex Olson oversees the planning and production of marketing video content, trade show presentations and corporate webcasts. His previous position was Vice President of Content Development. Prior to joining NewTek, Rex was owner of Desktop Images a producer and publisher of video training products for digital video production and 3D animation software. Rex was also owner of RAVE Video Production Facilities, a full service video production facility based in Burbank, California. Rex began his professional career in marketing support at Warner Bros Records later moving into live multi-track mobile recording at Tim Pinch Recording and Walley Heider Recording both as audio engineer and remote department manager.

Rob Powers - President of LightWave 3D Group

Rob Powers is the President of the NewTek LightWave Group and leads the LightWave 3D software development design. Powers was one of the original "Malibu Five" Avatar concept design team and the first CG artist to join James Cameron’s team as Animation Technical Director for the film. Powers was a key team member during the development of the virtual workflows used by Cameron and created the industry's first Virtual Art Department (VAD) for "Avatar." Powers was also the Los Angeles based Virtual Art Department Supervisor for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson’s animated film "Tintin" based on the world famous graphic novels by artist Hergé.

Powers is a graduate of the University of Southern California Cinema Production. After graduation, he continued his formal film school education at the American Film Institute. At the time, the digital side of filmmaking didn’t exist and no schools offered programs in computer graphics (CG) animation. Self-taught in digital filmmaking methodologies, Powers is among the pioneers of the CG revolution. He has created animation and effects for a wide range of projects such as James Cameron’s stereoscopic IMAX film "Aliens of the Deep," Disney’s "Honey I Shrunk the Kids", and Jet Li’s "The One." Powers was also the lead animator for the 3D-dancing baby and animated tongues and exploding heads that debuted on the Emmy-Award winning "Ally McBeal" television show in the mid-90s.
